our safety tools
NGL is meant to be a place that is fun and safe for all, where users can be their authentic selves and deepen their connections with their real-world friends in an online space. The NGL team has developed a complex safety system and a dedicated Community Team that work day and night to keep you, our users, safe. We’ve even added a variety of safety controls that allow users to enhance the security of their inboxes in unique ways:
Hidden words
The “Hidden words” safety control allows users to hide messages that they don’t want to see in their inbox by creating a custom list of words, emojis, and phrases that will automatically be filtered out from all future messages. This allows users to precisely determine what messages they want to allow into their inbox, down to the word and even to the emoji!
Blocked users
This safety setting displays a list of individuals blocked by the NGL user, allowing the user to have an overview of everyone that they have blocked and permitting them to unblock individuals at any time. This provides NGL users an increased level of control over the security of their inbox.
Pause my link
This feature allows NGL users to pause their NGL link, meaning that they can stop receiving messages in their NGL inbox for their chosen period of time. If a user becomes overwhelmed by their volume of incoming messages, they can pause their link for as long as they’d like, waiting to resume receiving messages until they’re once again ready to use NGL. Currently, users can choose to pause for preset times of 1, 6, or 24 hours, or they can choose to pause their link indefinitely and can unpause whenever they’re comfortable.
Advanced filtering
Users who turn on the advanced message filtering safety control will have even more messages that meet NGL’s moderation criteria automatically filtered out, so these messages never appear in users' inboxes.
Taken together, these safety controls allow NGL users to manage the kind of content they see in their inboxes, who can send them messages, and when they can receive messages. In tandem, they provide another layer of security to protect our NGL community.

our safety tools
In tandem, they provide another layer of security to protect our NGL community.

moderation
We take any cases of bullying, hate, or violence very seriously. Our Community Team monitors user reports and support tickets 24/7 to ensure the safety and integrity of our platform and our users.
NGL leverages Hive Moderations’s automated moderation solution as the first line of defense to scan messages for inappropriate content. Hive employs cutting-edge deep learning technology to help safeguard our virtual space and filter out potentially harmful language before it hits users’ inboxes. Its advanced algorithm detects the semantic meaning of emojis, and its web scraper pulls specific examples of contextual emoji use. This evolving technology helps to keep us on trend, deciphering slang and helping ensure NGL users are complying with our Community Guidelines.
By combining human expertise and advanced technology, we've created a content moderation system that's both effective and able to understand and adapt to modern human behavior. Our Community Team brings their real-world experience and understanding to the process, while Hive Moderation's complex AI algorithms provide invaluable insights and support.
Together, our Community Team and Hive Moderation act as a safety shield for the NGL community, constantly reviewing our platform for objectionable content and taking action.
We understand that content moderation is a delicate balance between protecting our community and preserving our users’ freedom of expression. Our Community Team and Hive Moderation work diligently to strike this balance, ensuring that our platform remains a place where diverse voices can thrive while maintaining a respectful and inclusive environment, free of any forms of hate or abuse.

When you receive a message on NGL that you find inappropriate, offensive, or harmful, you can report it directly within the app. Simply locate the message, tap on the Report button (⚠), select your Report reason, and tap “Tell NGL Team.” This will flag the message for further review.

What if I see someone violate these guidelines? ⚠️
Here are some steps you can take if you see a message in violation of our Community Guidelines:
Report it:
You can always hit the Report button in our app in order to report a message for Bullying or Harassment, Spam, or because you don’t like it. If you believe that a message needs immediate attention from our Support team, email us at safety@nglapp.com.
Block the sender:
If you’re experiencing repeated harassment on NGL, blocking the sender will prevent the user from reaching your inbox going forward.
Get help:
If you’re experiencing turmoil as a result of your NGL experience, please reach out to a trained mental health professional to seek help. If you are in search of resources, our Resources page lists various organizations that are ready and willing to help you.
Any messages that are deemed to be in violation of these Community Guidelines may be removed at our discretion at any time. Users in violation of any guideline may be banned from using NGL, especially for repeat offenses or particularly heinous violations. Any illegal or criminal activity observed by the NGL team may be reported to the correct authorities, along with any known information about the offending user. Our Community Guidelines may be updated to reflect new policies at any point in time, and all new updates are effective immediately upon publication.
Ultimately, we believe NGL should be a fun and safe space to connect with your friends authentically, without the pressures and inauthenticity of social media. But using NGL also comes with responsibility, so please be respectful and always remember to treat others how you wish to be treated.
our safety tools
